Abstract

Kyrgyzstan is a small mountainous country in Central Asia, it is undergoing a political and economic transitional phase. Since independence 1991, Kyrgyzstan has been struggling with economic difficulties, political instability and internal ethnic conflicts. How to unite its people around a national identity constitutes another great challenge.

Johanna Stenersen

Johanna Stenersen is a consultant at Plateau Communication , a consultancy business specialized in development communication. A lecturer and supervisor at the department of Media and Communication in Karlstad University, she has worked with communication and advocacy in both the private and public sector. This article is based on her Master thesis in Communication for Development (Malmö University, May 2006).
