Abstract

Assessing the value of participatory communication is a complex and difficult task. This, however, cannot become an excuse for giving up the search for appropriate methods, nor become a discriminating factor for negating the evidence of its value.

Paolo Mefalopulos

Paolo Mefalopulos, Ph.D. in international communication (University of Texas at Austin), has worked extensively in the field of development communication with a number of international agencies and NGOs. His field of expertise is participatory communication, a subject on which he has co-authored three books, including two on an innovative methodology known as Participatory Rural Communication Appraisal (PRCA), used for planning development projects and programs.He is currently a Senior Communication Officer at the Development Communication Division of the World Bank.
