Abstract

According to Jan Nederveen Pieterse, the definition of globalization as a form of hyper-modernity is purely Eurocentric. Globalization goes much further back than the 16th century's Discovery of the New World or the 18th century's Enlightenment. Whichever symbolic beginning you choose, Modernity, as an historic era, happens to coincide with that of Western expansion and world domination.
