Abstract

The international research project Global Media Generations (GMG) studied which media events were recalled by three different age cohorts in eight different countries. In this article, Ruth Teer- Tomaselli discusses what the various cohorts in different countries remembered, and why and how these events were remembered, emphasizing the relevance of collective memory.

Ruth Teer-Tomaselli

Ruth Teer-Tomaselli, Ph.D., is Professor of Culture, Communication and Media Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and Cultural and of Media Studies at the University of Natal, Durban, and UNESCO Chair in Communications for Southern Africa. She was Vice-President of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) between 2002 and 2004
