Abstract

The aim of this text is to discuss the forms and conditions for students to learn academic writing. The results are based on a literature review. The literature is analysed on the basis of the following questions: from which learning theories about academic writing is the literature based? What suggestions on how to teach academic writing are given? The results show that the literature is often based on the premise that writing is a process, and the literature mainly provides advice on how to teach ‘proce-dural knowledge’. This means that the literature recommends teachers to create learning situations in which students learn the various steps of the writing process by writing text and reflecting on the text in dialogue with the teacher or student colleagues.
