Academic literacy and thesis writing Roads to independence

Abstract
Students do not always have sufficient experience in, for example, academic writing, collecting data and analysing research material to start their thesis writing. Within academic education there exists a focus on independence. I this text I reflect on how this independence can be used to further students’ academic literacy. I argue that the development of academic literacy can be promoted by encouraging students to make independent choices and that supervision should support students in this.
