Abstract

The aim of this this experience-based reflection is to discuss the process of supervision for bachelor and master thesis. A special focus is dedicated to opportunities, challenges and obstacles. The text is mainly based on my experiences of supervision of students at the department of sport science, but also relates to steering documents and research. The department of sport science is multidisciplinary and contributes to more scientific traditions coexist at the department, which can lead to discussions when supervisors have different perceptions and experiences of the research process. This can be understood both as challenges and opportunities. However, being an expert of the craft of structuring a thesis is more important than being an expert of a certain topic or research area. A central part of the supervision is the relation between supervisor and student, where different aspects of relations and pedagogical teaching is considered. Furthermore, group supervision and individual supervision is discussed.
